Sustainable Building Designs for today & tomorrow ....

Steve Engelhardt AIA, LEED AP

Steve Engelhardt has worked for over sixteen years and has experience in designing commercial buildings and office layouts that maximize productivity and enhance the work environment. He has designed for both the public and private sector throughout the southeastern United States.  Concentration in this domain has led to a thorough working knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC), especially as it pertains to life-safety issues and the ability to provide space planning consulting services to other design professionals. He is responsible for performing all phases of architectural services including schematic design, design development, construction documents, bidding and negotiation and construction administration. He has managed project teams from design development through construction and has solid experience in project coordination with engineers, consultants, product vendors, contractors and county officials.  Steve holds both a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Architecture from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and is a LEED AP.

Steve is currently working as the sustainable consultant on a new office building in the South end part of Charlotte. Through the use of USGBC’s LEED NC 2.2 rating system, this 10,000 sq. ft. facility will become the new corporate office for McAllister Obsessive Constructive. The new building, currently under construction on a brownfield site, will increase the levels of occupant comfort by maximizing the use of daylight and views through strategically placed operable windows, water saving plumbing fixtures and sustainable waste management, all providing environmentally conscious design and construction methods.

As the LEED consultant for Mecklenburg County’s new 16,550 sq. ft. Medical Examiner’s office, Steve Engelhardt was a vital part of the project team for what will be the county’s first LEED certified building.  With Mecklenburg County’s dedication to LEED, Steve’s role was to establish design criteria and assist in the integration of environmentally conscience design practices according to the guidelines set by the United States Green Building Council. He was also responsible for administrating the registration and certification of the project by utilizing the LEED On-Line process developed by USGBC to achieve at minimum, a Silver LEED rating.
